Thank you so much to all the Lolos and Lolas (Grandpas and Grandmas) during our visit to California who gave Katelyn money! I used it to buy her first karaoke machine to begin training her to sing in church. I’m so proud of her progress! She gets very excited to turn on that microphone every day and sing. Her shyness is slowly being overshadowed by her enthusiasm for music.

For all those who see her at church every Sabbath, you won’t believe your ears. Get ready to be surprised.

Katelyn Sings the “B-I-B-L-E” Song

This is one of Katelyn’s favorite songs. She just loves shouting out those letters! I usually accompany her on the piano. But one time, while I was sitting on the floor with her, she walked to the piano with the mic in her left hand and began pressing random piano keys with her right hand as she sang her heart out. Guess she didn’t need me to play that time!

This one is my absolute favorite. I’ve listened to this a hundred times and I laugh every time. She sings this particular hymn constantly – in bed, while playing, at the mall, in the car. Everywhere but at church where she morphs into a silent flower.

We always remind Katelyn to pray before she eats. We’ve had limited success. She clasps her hands together, but we can’t get her to close her eyes. In fact, usually she clasps her hands and grins like crazy, her dimples burrowing in her checks. It’s extremely adorable, but obviously not praying. Well, she’s had a tiny bit of improvement. She kinda closes her eyes now. Kinda. We’re still working on it!

Shyness for Strangers

Katelyn has come to the age where she’s very wary of strangers. So when we went to Cali, I was slightly embarrassed that she didn’t want to be held by any of my relatives. She would cling on to our necks for dear life and try to climb up our chests as far as she possibly could. There was one time when we went to visit Bryan’s aunt in San Diego. Katelyn graciously took her hand for the filipino sign of respect we call “bless,” but refused to be held. Later during the day, Katelyn managed to loosen up and amuse herself by playing on the floor. Seeing that she was in a more playful mood, Bryan’s aunt walked towards her to try to pick her up. Katelyn saw her comming and very, very s-l-o-w-l-y lay herself completely flat on the tile floor, trying so hard to disappear. It was very funny, but very embarrassing.

The only time she would be social is if there were other children around. She wanted to play with her cousins, but of course, she can’t possibly keep up with them since she can’t (or won’t) run around. But if there’s one thing my relatives had to say, it was that she was very well behaved. During my cousin’s wedding that we attended, there were about 7 flower girls, Katelyn included. She and her younger cousin, who is just an infant, were supposed to ride in a wagon that would be pulled down the isle by an older male cousin. Just before the wedding, the baby starting crying, so they decided to carry her down the isle instead. So it was just Katelyn in the wagon. Thank goodness that she got lots of practice riding a wagon around our neighborhood! As she was being pulled down the isle, she was as quiet as could be. She merely turned her head this way and that to look at the people who were all around her. She might as well have been Queen Victoria riding a horse-drawn carriage, acknowledging her admiring subjects. It made everybody giggle.

Can you believe it? It’s been just a few weeks since my Daddy re-structured my site… and now I’m number one on Google for the search terms “Katelyn Rose” (well, at least, as of 05/15/2008).

Isn’t that wonderful? I’ve been checking often, and now I’ve climbed up the ranks.
