It’s amazing what children pick up without you even teaching them. In our house, we have a room dedicated to my piano. This is also the same room where we practice singing if we are assigned to do special music or something. Katelyn has identified this room as the music room and she knows exactly what we do there. She does this thing to emulate singing: she sings “Ahh-ahh-ahh-ahh” with two repeating notes. It sounds like “C-E-C-E-C.” The doors to that room are double doors that you simply push open. In addition to playing piano, I also read my Bible in there. One morning while I was reading, Katelyn pushed a door open, stuck her head in, and sang “Ahh-ahh-ahh” while entering.

She can tell the difference between written words and music. If you’re lucky enough to see her entertain herself, when looking at books, she’ll babble nothings when she sees paragraphs or point at pictures and label everything “dog.” But if you hand her a hymnal in church, she’ll sing her little tune.

I recently taught her how to play the lute. While learning, we both obviously made a big deal out of it, cheering and clapping to encourage her. After a while, I headed off to the piano room to play while Bryan kept the camera rolling. With no one available to clap for her, she put down the lute, amazingly gave herself applause, then continued playing. Hee hee!

This was the very first time Bryan saw her do it. Before, she would simply clap on her own, which was the first accomplishment of this song. Unfortunately, our dog wanted to get in on the excitement and broke Katelyn’s concentration. Aaarrrggg! It’s still a cute clip. Enjoy!

For those of you who used to watch this beloved show, you’ll be singing the theme song when you see what new crazy thing I bought for my girl. Not only is it FUNCTIONAL, but it’s just super cool. AND… I don’t know anybody else who has one. He he he. Got 2 B original. I love walking around the neighborhood with Katelyn and Doxy. It’s a great warm up for a good jog afterwards. Now if only I could stop eating, maybe I could take off more of this baby weight! I actually applied for long term disability in preparation for our second baby (which will be in the works beginning this summer), and I was actually denied. DENIED. Why, you ask? And I quote, “Due to my height and body weight proportions”… yada yada yada… what they tried to say nicely is… I’m too fat. Therefore at high risk for heart attacks, diabetes, strokes, etc. Yes, true. BUT… I bet I could out-jog half the skinny people I know! Oh well, such is my life-long battle with the bulge. Ah, but don’t forget…. I have a GREAT personality! So my neighbors will probably be seeing a lot more of me as I jog through the streets of Crosby, Texas with my beautiful little girl. In her kickin’ ride!

April 18th, 2008… a day which will live in… what’s the opposite of infamy? Famy? At the grand old age of 1 year, 8 months, 1 week and 2 days, Katelyn has AT LAST taken her very first unassisted steps!

It was close to midnight on a Friday at the Baysa’s in Missouri City. Katelyn was playing in between us on the bed as Bryan and I lay down. Tired as we were, we waited for her to spend a little bit more of her energy so we could all sleep. She was standing up facing me, leaning against my hip for support, when she suddenly turned around towards her daddy and took 2 full steps before catapulting into his arms. We were so shocked, we didn’t make a sound through out this miracle. But then we burst into applause. She of course saw it as a new game, and did it over and over and over again. We were so proud! Then at 6 o’clock in the morning, she decides to wake us up for more walking games.

You know, I was always afraid that I would be at work and miss the first steps of my first child – but God allowed us BOTH to witness it together as a family! On a Sabbath! How awesome is that??
